What is IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) at Oceanaconte Spa & Clinic?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), also known as photorejuvenation, is a non-invasive medical aesthetic treatment that utilizes specific wavelengths of broad-spectrum light to treat various skin conditions. It offers comprehensive solutions for a range of skin issues, and it's known for its minimal impact on the skin. IPL is used for improving skin texture, reducing the appearance of pigmentation, redness, and rosacea, as well as stimulating collagen production for smoother, healthier skin.

How does IPL Work?

IPL uses a broad-spectrum light produced by an intense pulsed xenon lamp. This light is filtered to select specific wavelengths within the range of 500-1200nm. These selected wavelengths target "chromophores" in the skin, such as melanin, collagen, and haemoglobin. Chromophores are the target tissues in the skin. When the specific wavelengths of light are directed onto the skin, they selectively heat and break down these target tissues. For example, melanin absorbs light within the 250-1200nm range, while haemoglobin absorbs light at wavelengths between 590-1200nm. Since the melanin and blood vessels in abnormal skin tissue contain more chromophores compared to normal skin, they heat up more during the treatment. This heating process closes off abnormal blood vessels, breaks down melanin, and stimulates collagen production. The destroyed melanin and blood vessels are eventually metabolized and eliminated by the body. This helps improve various skin conditions, including pigmentation issues, sun damage, redness, and acne.

Additionally, IPL induces a photothermal effect that causes collagen and elastin fibres in the dermis to contract, restoring elasticity and promoting the synthesis of collagen and elastin. This helps reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and pore size and improves overall skin texture.
